Sept. 15: Coastal Cleanup Day, Lakes Basin

Sponsored by the Sierra Club, Java Joint Café, and Old New York Deli & Bagel Co.!

Project description: Do Coastal Cleanup Day the Mammoth Lakes way in the Lakes Basin! An important local and regional water source, the many lakes in the lower Basin -- Horseshoe, Mamie, George, Mary, and Twin -- see thousands upon thousands of visitors every summer and get particularly well-loved over the Labor Day holiday weekend. Pitch in with Friends of the Inyo, MLTPA, Mammoth Trails, the Inyo National Forest, and the Sierra Club to perform trail maintenance, trash pickup, and lakeshore beautification throughout the area. We'll stage out of Horseshoe Lake's day-use area and carpool down Lake Mary Road from there after a breakfast by Old New York Deli & Bagel Co. and a brief safety talk/work assignments. Giveaways and a lunch catered special by Java Joint will cap off the day!

When: Saturday, September 15, 8:30 a.m.
Where: Meet at the Horseshoe Lake day-use area under the white pop-up tent for a bagel breakfast, safety talk and work assignments.
What: Head out with a trail-care crew to any of the lower Lakes Basin lakes for a morning of maintenance, then back to the tent for lunch and giveaways.
Who: Volunteers of all ages and abilities are welcome! Please dress for trail work: sturdy, close-toed shoes, hat, long pants and a long-sleeve shirt. Gloves and tools provided.
