November 2006 Summit

MLTPA has committed to producing a proposal to the community of Mammoth Lakes for an organization that could spearhead the creation of a master-planned system of trails, signage and wayfinding, and public access in the Mammoth Lakes region. In pursuit of this goal, MLTPA hosted a summit on the weekend of November 3-5, 2006.

Public Meeting
On Saturday evening, November 4, MLTPA hosted an event for the general public at Little Eagle Lodge in Mammoth Lakes. At 6:30 p.m., the doors opened and the public had an opportunity to review large-scale maps and printed materials relevant to the creation of a world-class trails and public access system.

At 7 p.m., Jeff Olson, Principal, Alta Planning + Design, delivered a presentation, “A Vision for Trails and Public Access in Mammoth Lakes.” At the conclusion of his presentation, Jeff led a public discussion on topics relevant to trails and public access issues in Mammoth Lakes.

Strategic Conference

In addition to this public event, a team of invited decision-makers from the Mammoth Lakes area and beyond met Saturday and Sunday to explore and discuss in detail the challenges and opportunities facing any proposed organization tasked with integrating the Town of Mammoth Lakes and its surrounding public lands. These conversations were led and facilitated by Elizabeth Martin of the Sierra Fund along with Jeff Olson of Alta Planning + Design. Ideas and facts gathered at the Public Meeting and the Strategic Conference lie at the heart of the proposal to the Mammoth Lakes community for a trails and public access advocacy organization.

The Strategic Conference produced an Action Plan for MLTPA, drafted by Jeff Olson.
