In August 2006, the Town of Mammoth Lakes contracted with MLTPA to generate a GIS (Geographic Information Systems) inventory of points of public access to outdoor recreation amenities within and around the town of Mammoth Lakes, which will be used by the Town to supplement its existing GIS database and ensure that current and future planning takes into account the vast array of outdoor recreation opportunities that surround our community and are integral to our culture and our economy. A small army of dedicated, passionate volunteers turned out to assist MLTPA in collecting information about all the summer and winter activities people enjoy from specific points of access, and, as a result of their efforts, MLTPA was able to submit to the Town a complete set of more than 150 points of public access within the TOML Planning Area.
The Department of Tourism and Recreation presented this completed data set to the Town Council at its March 21, 2007, meeting, where it was adopted by the Town. Many heartfelt thanks go out to our more than two dozen volunteers!
